3 Pillars of My Holistic Health Coaching:
We will be using macro nutrition, also known as flexible dieting, as the way to improve your nutrition and get you to your goals.
Each food has its own macronutrient profile (for example, beef is high in protein, butter in fat, and rice in carbohydrates). In this program, I will guide you to track your macronutrients and how to hit your goals so that you start losing fat, gaining muscle, and improving performance, hormonal health, and overall health.
The huge plus of flexible dieting is that it is actually not a diet. That's right — you can eat all foods, you will just learn to do so in moderation.
And no, you do not have to avoid carbs, practice intermittent fasting, or skip meals!
Here are my personal results when I went from not tracking anything, to tracking macros.
What Do I Need To Track Macros?
You need to download the MyFitnessPal app. It's easy to use: You will just type in the food you're going to eat and the app will tell you how many fats, carbs, proteins and calories the food has.
You will also need a food scale so that you can weigh your food. That ensures that you calculate as accurately as possible.
Do You Give Me A Meal Plan?
No, I don't give you a meal plan because meal plans prescribed by someone else don't work in a long run. You have to like what you eat, and if I gave you a plan that consisted of tilapia and broccoli but you hate both, you would not last on this plan.
So, I won't give you a meal plan, but I will, however, help you to put together meals that fit your macro requirements and that you love. You will get results by eating foods that you actually like.
How Is Macro Tracking Different From Calorie Tracking?
Tracking only calories may give you a good idea about how much you're eating, but you get far better results with macro tracking. What the foods you are eating are made of (=how much fat, carbs and proteins are in them), is extremely important for great results.
For example, if your goal is to lose fat or gain muscle and get that more defined look, you need to eat enough protein. Just eating “low calories” is not going to help and is actually detrimental.
If your workout performance has dropped, or you feel like you don't recover well from your workouts, your carbohydrates might be too low.
If your sleep is off and your brain feels foggy, you might be low on fats, even if your calories seem high enough.
So, tracking your macros versus just calories is far more effective way to achieve your goals.
I highly recommend incorporating weight lifting too when you start tracking your macros. I will prescribe you a plan that comes with video demonstrations for each exercise.
Consistent weight lifting is the best way to ensure you're keeping your metabolism strong and flexible. More muscle mass will also help you burn more calories and for that reason, you'll be able to eat more without gaining weight.
If you want to achieve that “toned”, lean look, the only way to do it is to do resistance training. Cardio alone will not get you there, and is, in many cases, actually counterproductive.
3. Stress Management/Nervous System Management
You might be surprised to find this as the third pillar, but here's why it's here: Most fitness programs completely overlook the importance of stress which is the reason why many women can't get results, even if their food and exercise are perfect.
If you are not able to manage your stress and calm your nervous system down, your body and brain are constantly on high alert. That means that you're likely producing excessive stress hormones, you might be gaining weight especially around midsection, you have blood sugar imbalances, cycle issues, and much more. These things can result from chronic low level stress that you might be experiencing daily.
Something that most fitness programs and coaches don't realize: The body needs to feel safe in order to produce results. If it doesn't feel safe (constantly stressed!!), the results will be minimal if any.
In my program, I'm offering very simple techniques such as cold water exposure, functional breathing, meditation and more, to calm down the nervous system. You will feel better mentally, and you also accelerate your physique results!
What Does Coaching Look Like?
First, we get on a call and see if we're a good fit for each other. I will ask you about your goals, past and current eating habits, training habits, lifestyle, stress, etc. If it's a good fit, then we start the work!
We get on a call every week to go over your last week and make adjustments to your plan if needed. I expect you to be honest and share everything that came up for you that week, what was easy, what was hard, etc to make sure we get you the results you wanted.
You will also have text message and email access to me if you need anything between our calls.
Why Shouldn't I Just Take A Macro Plan Off The Internet?
I don't recommend that at all.
Every person is different, so taking a plan that is not designed for you will not only be ineffective but potentially even dangerous.
I've seen people using generic plans that were not designed for them, that were never customized and adjusted during a long period of time. Many of these people stopped seeing results — they got stuck in one place, their hormones went out of balance (sleep issues, women lost their periods, developed thyroid issues)…
This is not what you want. This is not what you signed up for!
Your plan should always be adjusted, and you should never eat in the same way for weeks and weeks, which is exactly what happens if you follow a plan that is generic and not made for you specifically.
