What Do You Need to Know About Working Out After You've Recovered from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea?
Here are some questions I get a lot:
1️⃣ Can I ever get back to working out after recovering from HA?
2️⃣ If & when I start again, can I be sure that my cycle won't go away again?
3️⃣ What and how much can I do for my workouts?
And here are the answers:
1️⃣ YES, absolutely.
2️⃣ No you can't 😊But IF you are smart and train right, then the chance that it will go again is small! I'm recovered since May 2017 and haven't had that happen. However there are women who have had HA 2 or more times because they wanted to lose weight quickly again…
3️⃣ Here's my DO and DON'T lists for post HA training:
What to Do and What to Avoid After Hypothalamic Amenorrhea
✅ Start with light bodyweight training. I don't mean burpees on 10000 squat jumps.
✅2-3 days per week is a good start.
✅Take plenty of breaks between sets.
✅Yoga and walking are still great.
✅Eat like you did when you were recovering, no major calorie cutting.
❌Start with HIIT, bootcamps or long runs shortly after recovery.
❌Go back to where you left off! No 6x week workouts, no same weights you used to lift last time, not the same distance you used to run.
❌Push yourself to the point of extreme exhaustion.
❌Use working out to lose weight.
