I’ve Gained Some Weight – Here’s What I’m Going to Do

August 23, 2019 by Kersten Kimura Leave a Comment

I've gained some weight recently and in this post, I'm sharing what I'm going to do about it.

It's interesting because I actually found a post from several years ago when I was super lean (but didn't realize it myself) and said that I had gained weight (which I cannot see, looking back – I was just really obsessed). I had a list of tips that I was going to do to lose that weight… Like drink more water and all the other usual tips that you get. But this time, my approach is different – it's not as panic-y! I don't have to lose it by tomorrow, and I realize that some fluctuations are totally fine.

Why Did I Gain Weight?Β

But back to the story… So I have gained a little bit of weight recently. That's based on how my clothes fit (I don't have a scale).

Why has this happened? Mostly because I've been eating more as I've been working on my Eat for Health recipe book. All that tasting, re-making and tasting again adds up a bit 😊 Also, I've been prioritizing rest and restorative movement and been at the gym quite a bit less.

So, I've gained weight. What do I do about it?

NOTHING πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Some fluctuations in our body weight are normal. We all have times when we eat more than usual (holidays, vacations, stressful periods, less physical activity). But a healthy metabolism returns to its usual weight when things are back to usual again. And, without extreme restriction!

Note – I'm talking about *healthy metabolism* which we have if all our bodies work properly:

βœ… good digestion πŸ’©

βœ… proper sleep πŸ›

βœ… good fertility ❀️

βœ… good hair & skin πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈπŸ’…

I'm not talking about unhealthy metabolism that is characterized by

πŸ‘Ž poor digestion
πŸ‘Ž fertility issues (no period anyone?)
πŸ‘Ž bad sleep

πŸ‘Ž low body temperature

πŸ‘Ž hair loss
πŸ‘Ž dull skin

If the metabolism is not healthy because you've been under eating and as a result, you're under weight, you may have to gain weight to make your metabolism healthy!

Some Fluctuations Are No Big Deal

But once your metabolism is healthy, small fluctuations are no big deal. Don't sweat it. Don't let the world end because you've gained a few pounds or kilograms!

So, I'm doing nothing about my weight gain because

β˜‘οΈ I know some fluctuations happen

β˜‘οΈ My weight is not the most important thing about me

β˜‘οΈ Constantly thinking about it takes all my mental energy that I'd otherwise put somewhere else.

Our body weights can fluctuate, but let’s not let our mood and self acceptance do the same. Do you agree?
